Witness how anarchy was born.

UPDATE: Being part of the common people is all well and good, but what if you wanted to stand out from the rest of the Okhlos? Go ahead and give yourself that little divine push with the upgrade to Olympus Edition. Everything looks better from up there.

Okhlos, the chaotic action/strategy about a mob of angry ancient Greeks stampeding over their malevolent gods, is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

Ancient Greece is the cradle of democracy, modern civilization, philosophy, and a handful of other highbrow concepts. And yet the citizens are furious! Sure, the economic crisis is still several millennia away, but the oppression they suffer from the Olympian gods cannot continue unchecked. That's why the people now rally behind venerable public figures who lead them to stomp on mythological beasts, lay waste to holy temples, and bring down any arrogant Olympians standing on their way. But all unruly protesters are not created equal: you can recruit warriors, peasants, slaves, or even legendary heroes like Leonidas and Socrates to increase your mob's stampeding potential. By Zeus, god-slaying does not get more democratic than this!

Prepare to introduce some sandal-wearing anarchy into ancient Greece with your custom-made Okhlos, DRM-free on GOG.com. Want to piss off the gods even further? Add hubris to injury with the Olympus Edition, which includes a digital artbook and history guide, some early game prototypes, and the full game soundtrack.
The 10% discount will last until August 25, 1:59 PM UTC.

vanchann: I mean mob = όχλος in Greek. Pronounced ochloss (read it in German). Here is written as okhlos, almost the same I guess!
avatar
0Grapher: Pronounced [όkʰlos] in Ancient Greek, though.

Tired to play most of the time on my Windows 7.

So, the game's title is mob exactly!

I should have checked a vocabulary for the Ancient Greek pronunciation, since I don't remember and in modern Greek almost everything has been simplified.
I think, you already know though! :-)

No idea, I'm all over that guy.

The differences regarding these kinds of consonants are easy to explain.
Basically, in Ancient Greek what you'd write as a consonant+h with the Latin alphabet was pronounced something like the consonant plus h. Ph, kh/ch, th (similar to p, k, t in pill, kin, tin) vs. p, k, t (p, k, t in English words like spin, skill, still).

Thanks again, it's really nice to have this discussion.

I remember about consonant + h pronunciation in general, but I didn't remember about Χ(χ) pronunciation in Ancient Greek. It's been about 20 years since school and my following studies have been on totally different fields.

Today Χ(χ) is pronounced just like a H(h) in English like in [here], but fully sounded and in any context regardless of what preceding or following it. I think German [ch] is more accurate.

vanchann: I think German [ch] is more accurate.
I think you're right. There are different pronunciations of German ch (nicht, Nacht, Suche) and I think the pronunciation follows very similar rules.

I'm going to explain this step-by-step in hopes that GOG comes to understand the problem:

1. I know almost nothing about this game.

2. There are basic and deluxe editions, but no upgrade from basic to deluxe.

3. If I decide to try the basic edition and enjoy it, I cannot buy the deluxe goodies without buying the whole deluxe package.

4. Because of this situation, I will wait until the deluxe edition is offered at a significant sale price before trying the game.

5. You've lost the potential to sell me the game right now.

Get it?

This isn't a problem on Steam: There, you can buy the soundtrack, encyclopedia, and prototypes as DLC.

That said, a simple $10 upgrade package for the GOG basic edition would suffice.

There will be one but we need to take care of a few details before we can sell it.

Cool.

Here's another one:

- not a problem [url=http://store.steampowered.com/app/320820/]on Steam, where you can buy the soundtrack as DLC.

There are more games without upgrades from basic to deluxe on GOG, but Steam doesn't offer upgrades or equivalent DLC either, so GOG is off the hook in those cases - that's on the devs/pubs.

Also, we still lack the soundtrack and artbook DLC (available on Steam) for Victor Vran. This is one of the most fun games on GOG, and it'd be nice to be able to buy those extras.

rgnrk: Devolver Digital games are always interesting and the comments about it on the cooptional podcast where quite positive. So, pretty happy that GOG keeps releasing this type of game and ignores the GW gang and the snob comittee-against-indie-games. Good games should be on GOG regardless of graphics, and I hope this ends up being a good game. And I even like the aesthetics of this one, as it works to express the mayhem they're going for.

And as usual, I find it kind of distasteful to flood the release thread of a game with posts criticizing GOG for releasing it. Without even playing it. Seriously. This game isn't preventing GOG from releasing Bethesda games or any other AAA one. GOG would release those in a heartbeat if they could. Yes, they appreciate the money.
good post, i agree 100%.

+1

Excuse me but it is not yet 1400 UTC. It is now 1335 UTC. Why is this no longer on sale?
Meh, not for me. What a unorganised mess of pixels. Don't get met wrong, there are plenty of games that pixels which I I really like, but this one is just too chaotic, all the "information" about individual strikes completely obscures any game play.
